Christmas Bunting

If you have been to Spotlight in the last year or so you would know that Jocelyn Proust is raking in the cash with her ever-expanding and ever-adorable range of Australian flora and fauna based fabrics. The Christmas fabrics are particularly whimsical and delightful so in 2018 I was pretty raw when I missed out on buying some of her Christmas bunting fabric. I wasn't making the same mistake in 2019 - I bought a meter the first time I saw it in store! And then it sat there. And it sat there for a long time.

It was probably November before I decided to get the bunting over with - because by this stage it was another project pulling the rope around my metaphorical craft neck. I was probably four triangles in when I recalled my shear loathing for repetitive tasks - cut out the triangles, sew the triangles, turn the triangles the right way out… it's why I don't make quilts and I don't decorate cupcakes.

I had also failed to anticipate how much ribbon I would need which meant an additional trip to Spotlight for extra supplies.

But you know what? I made that bunting and I was so proud. I persevered through the mundane and repetitive tasks. And then it was time to put up the Christmas decorations and you know what else? There was not a single location in the house that I felt suited the bunting.

We tend to keep Christmas to our front room. The issue here is that three walls are entirely window with roller blinds which did not let the bunting hang nicely - trust me, I tried. The other wall is a beautiful 1980s diagonal timber wall that I refuse to damage with holes or tape.

So the Christmas bunting sat there on the craft table for the entirety of Christmas before eventually being packed away with the other Christmas decorations, not to be seen until December 2020 when hopefully I might find a suitable burning location. (Also there is no finished photo and the bunting is now packed away under the house, sorry.)

What craft project did you finish in time for Christmas?
